Celiac Disease
SYMPTOMS. Large, foul-smelling, pale, frothy, fatty stools, abdominal
distension, vomiting and weakness.
CAUSES. This is a childhood disease that is relatively uncommon. It is
thought to be linked to heredity and it involves an intorlance to protien of
rye and wheat. The impaired absorption of nutrients from abnormal changes in
the small intestine lining is the result of this intolerance. Although a
childhood disease, it may appear in adults. The adult form is call sprue.
TREATMENT. A proper diet will have to be maintained.
.Supplements of calcium, iron and vitamins may be prescribed.
.A nutritionist may be helpful.
